Using Linux for Work and Play
15/09/2016 @ 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm
Linux is very firmly here both at work and at home. Linux also discretely connects work and home and play and people across the internet and through various personal ‘smart’ devices… Yet beware becoming victim to the old quotes of?:
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy
– Proverb
The supreme [business?] accomplishment is to blur the line between work and play
– Arnold J. Toynbee
Work and play are words used to describe the same thing under differing conditions
– Mark Twain
Or… Can you really benefit in the FLOSS world with these more healthy old quotes?:
Play is the only way the highest intelligence of humankind can unfold
– Joseph Chilton Pearce
You’ve achieved success in your field when you don’t know whether what you’re doing is work or play
– Warren Beatty
The supreme [work-play?] accomplishment is to blur the line between work and play
– Arnold J. Toynbee
What we play is life
– Louis Armstrong
All just a question of freedom and how that freedom is supported?…
If I get to pick what I want to do, then it’s play… if someone else tells me that I have to do it, then it’s work
– Patricia Nourot
So… How can you work, play and FLOSS and have fun?… So… Without further ado:
If music be the food of love, play on
– William Shakespeare
All to be discussed in a playful way…
All at our usual 7:30pm Organ Grinder venue.
(We are the easily identifiable group with electronics and penguins somewhere near a power supply. We may move up to the function room if things get busy. Just ask the friendly bar staff!)
All welcome including coders and spectators and all new alike! Note that our talks are quite informal. All are welcome to bring along their devices to play 🙂
Be welcome 🙂
