A New Year’s Linux (continuing… ;-) )
09/02/2011 @ 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm
What new goodies can we hope for in the New Year? What is Linux in the first place?… (Don’t worry, no deja-vu here…)
Following on from all the varied discussions from last month, in a brave attempt to get ahead of even just the current news for all things Linux and to get beyond just the talk preamble… So… 🙂 Take #2 for:
For those new and not so new to Linux, this talk is aimed to give a whistle-stop tour of a little of the history and main characters that have crafted Linux into what (an ever increasing proportion of) the world uses today. Also, a brief overview of the structure of Linux will be given so as to give an idea of what it is that your computer actually does when you run ‘Linux’.
All in time for beers and discussions later! (As can be guessed, we’re an informal lot where the discussions can be the talk 🙂 )
We are at Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem in the ground floor snug. Ask at the bar or look for penguins and {lap, net}books! Good food and good beer also.
Cheers,
Martin
(Note that oncemore we are on the second Wednesday for February.)

Hi,
Could have made it this Wednesday but not next Wednesday. Sorry!
Will we be meeting 2nd Wednesday from now on?
Peter.
Don’t know yet. All depends on venue availability. We’re still looking for something more regular that is available on a Wed or Thurs night. All ideas for somewhere around the city centre welcomed!
Cheers,
Martin
Good discussion and a good welcome at Ye Olde Trip and this time the discussions allowed a little time to actually give the talk! 🙂
As with all open source developments. Linux is the sum of many parts and is much more than just a collection of computer code…
Hopefully for the next meet, the buses will be greatly less non-existent for me to do the trip!…
Next meet is a “New York Italian” feast. Watch the maillist!
Cheers,
Martin
