GPG Partytime! & DEEMail?
02/05/2012 @ 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm
Folks,
From popular discussion for this “Talk” meetup, the format will be to hold an informal ‘keysigning’ for the first part of the meeting. Then break to grab a beer, and follow on with a second part to briefly explain the present email systems commonly used and to introduce my DEEMail ideas to thwart unwelcome snooping…
Henceforth:
Part A:
Following on from last month’s Cryptically Yours Sincerely, here we do the old-tech bits of paper and symbology for real!
For those new to this, please just come along to spectate, giggle, and see what it’s all about and why.
For those wishing to be Trusted with their presence, please bring along photo-id (passport or photo driving license for example), their own Key ID number, and key ‘fingerprint’ printed out on paper. See part way down the SeahorseGPG example for what the “Key ID” and “Fingerprint” look like.
The printed-out-on-paper is important as a means of indelible communication that can’t be easily forged. There’s also QR codes that can be printed to convey the details… Thoughts on that?
Also, we have no WiFi at the Fellows venue, so we have to be thorough and low-tech! 😉
Note that no signed keys should be uploaded directly. As discussed elsewhere: To avoid any possibility of fraud, the signed key must be emailed to the email address for that key so that the real owner can choose to upload the signed key.
Lets party!
Part B:
Beer break 🙂
Part C:
Here I present the evolving features for a Distributed Encrypted Email system where both the message AND the addressing are encrypted.
This is very much a work-in-progress and I will be covering the main features and some possible pitfalls. Further discussion for ideas and comment is welcomed.
The Decryption:
All for your fun enlightenment and entertainment, all at our usual real-world venue:
