Firewalls and Network Routing Lowdown
06/02/2013 @ 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm
There are “HowTo”s, and then there is this Wednesday evening where we have a “Lowdown” 🙂
The highly hyped ‘threat’ of malfeasance and “cyber-warfare” on the internet apparently obliges everyone to don ‘super-protection’ for network connected home systems and industrial systems alike. Which is where the “Firewall” is assumed to be the catch-all panacea to keep out all internet uncleanliness…
Around an informal talk/discussion, I will cover what a network Firewall is and detail what it does. Time permitting, I can also uncover Network Address Translation, network routing, and the various types of network addressing.
- Do you need a Firewall?
- Does it help?
- For all network and telecommunications devices?
- Guarantee of ‘safety’ or ‘security’?
- Or all unnecessary and more trouble than worth?
Come along to the lowdown to discover a little more for what most people somehow take for granted!
All at our usual real world down to earth venue:
Fellows Morton and Clayton
54 Canal Street
Nottingham, NG1 7EH
Telephone: 0115 9506795
latitude = 52.948615
longitude = -1.148431

Food is also served up until 8pm.
On this occasion we’re triple booked with football and the puddings club… So we’ll be huddled in the comfy seats quiet area reserved for us in the warmth immediately as you enter the pub. Just look for the Linux mags and gadgets (or ask the friendly bar staff where to find us 🙂 ).
Wednesday 06/02/2013:
- 7:30pm: Meet
- 8:00pm: Discussions/Talks
All welcome!
Cheers,
Martin
