SUMMARY:Going Cloudy
DESCRIPTION:Clouds\n\nWish to own your very own bit of “Cloud Computing”?\nOr even\, just curious about what these computer ‘clouds’ are all about?\n\nRather than dreaming on\, then float along to our latest up-to-minute talk which will primarily focus on running an ownCloud instance.  This will include installation\, what it does\, what it can be made to do\, how I intend to use it and generally how awesome it is. \nIf you are involved in cloud computing\, please do come along and add to the debate.  For example\, how does cloud computing differ to the previous paradigms of time-sharing on main-frames and minis?  Or does it?  Is it all just PR? \nCome along\, have some sustenance and begin to ponder a possible weekend project. Or just watch the fun! \nFor those daring enough to be so inclined\, you can join in the live demo if I can get the WiFi to behave! You will need support for CalDAV\, CardDAV and/or WebDAV. \n\nI’ll have copies of the ownCloud client you can install (all supported OSs).\n\nSorry\, this turned out to be somewhat more complicated than anticipated\n\n\nKontact from within KDE has excellent support and is probably the easiest to set-up.\nThe SOGo Connector add-on for Thunderbird will provide CardDav support and Lightning should support CalDAV natively.\nAmpache is also supported.\n\n\nFor Android there are some free CalDAV/CardDAV apps (e.g. CardDav-Sync Free) but most do cost.\nES File Explorer supports WebDAV.\n\nNew version appears to have dropped support\n\n\nThere is also the ownCloud Android app that does file syncing (£0.65-ish).\n\n\nRequirements for iOS are the same as for Android.  Please check your documentation for how to use CardDAV/CalDAV.\n\n\nFailing all that\, there is always the web interface (I’ll try to have this mobile friendly).\n\nDisclaimer: Neither I\, NLUG or anyone else is responsible for data loss or corruption as a result of the demo.  You are responsible for what you put on your device. \n  \nAll aboard to our alternate venue of\nThe Canalhouse\n48-52 Canal Street\nNottingham\nNG1 7EHPhone: 0115 9555060\nFood served up until 9pm \n  \nTuesday 07/05/2013: \n\n7:30pm: Meet\n8:00pm: Discussions/Demonstration\n\nAll welcome! \n  \nWatch this space as the cloud takes root… 😉
